Week 5 Assignment 1

Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences recognizes that there are many ways to be smart. People think and learn in different ways. The eight intelligences are linguistic, logical-mathematical, musical, visual-spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalistic. It's so important for educators to realize and believe that every student is intelligent. Everyone has things they are better at and things that are just not their strong points. We must realize that all of our students can excel in their learning. We just have to do our part and create lessons that incorporates many of the multiple intelligences, so that all our diverse learners can use their top intelligences to learn and blossom. Teachers can use multiple intelligences in the classroom in various ways. Having students watch a video on the lesson, is great for those with spatial-visual intelligence. Singing songs and doing motions with the students are geared towards those with musical, verbal, and bodily-kinesthetic intelligences. Having the students do research and have independent work time, is geared towards students with logical and intrapersonal intelligences. Having the students create a visual presentation explaining the lesson, is geared towards logical, visual, and verbal intelligences. Having the students create a 3-D project depicting the lesson in a creative and informative way is geared towards bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, and visual intelligences. Having the students collaborate and discuss the lesson is geared towards interpersonal intelligence. By incorporating the multiple intelligences into our lessons, we are allowing the students multiple entry points into a single topic. Also,we will be deepening and enhancing the students understandings of a concept, by approaching it from a variety of angles!
